- LOCAL CAFE OWNER
The second stage of improvements to Brierly Street adjacent to Cooleman Court in Weston Creek aimed to transform the flourishing café and restaurant strip into a more comfortable and attractive place for the community and businesses.
Extensive engagement was undertaken with both the community and stakeholders, with feedback invited on desired improvements. Key themes included:
- Increased greenery through more trees and landscaping
- Enhanced pedestrian safety
- Improved amenities, including better lighting
PLACE Lab applied their core design values to achieve the following:
- Added more green spaces with trees and gardens
- Slowed down traffic to create a safer environment
- Created more spaces for outdoor dining
- Used high-quality finishes for a polished look
The design drew inspiration from the classic suburban vibe of Weston Creek, creating a streetscape that feels like home. Features include:
- A series of “living rooms” with intricate brick paving, comfortable seating, and recycled brick accent walls
- Locally painted café tables by artist Byrd, adding color and whimsy to the scene
The project successfully transformed Brierly Street into a more vibrant, safe, and inviting area, enhancing the overall experience for both the community and local businesses.
